Zyvex Hypertonic Nasal Spray and Zyvex Advanced Oral Spray are two sprays, for the nose and throat respectively, developed to form a protective shield of the nasal and throat mucus in order to prevent the proliferation of viruses. Developed from a technology that Crab Sinergy has used in various products for more than ten years. When sprayed, they form a barrier with an acid and hypertonic environment with an adhesive component that anchors them to the mucus. This barrier action is boosted by probably one of the most studied antiviral substances in the world : quercetin, which has a specific action on the mechanisms of penetration of the SARS-CoV-2 virus into the cells of the nasal or oral mucus and a well-studied antiviral effect on the H1N1 influenza virus.
Zyvex Hypertonic Nasal Spray and Zyvex Advanced Oral Spray have the following action on viral proliferation:
- They form an adhesive barrier with an acid pH which blocks the contact of the virus with the cells of the oral and nasal mucus. It has been known for some time that barriers made up of substances based on cellulose, if associated with an acid pH, inhibit the proliferation of various respiratory viruses. Contact between the virus and the cells is prevented by a protective film that is formed on the cellular epithelium.
- The barrier effect is boosted and made specific against the virus of SARS-CoV-2 by the presence of an antiviral active ingredient, quercetin. This antiviral in a screening of over 8000 substances, came 5th in terms of power for its capacity to inhibit the bond of the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus with the ACE2 receptor of the cells of the nasal and oral mucus.In addition, they are powerful inhibitors of the protease 3CI, an essential enzyme for the SARS-CoV-2 virus to penetrate the host cells. Quercetin has shown a specific antiviral action which blocks the entrance of the H1N1 influenza virus into the cells of the respiratory tract. Considering the that now the epidemiological data worldwide show that the emergence of local or general outbreaks of the new variants of Covid-19 are simultaneous with that of new strains of flu in a “twindemic” way, the double activity against influenza and coronavirus is very important.
- The fact that until today this action has not been applied, in pharmacology in nasal and oral sprays, is mainly linked to the difficulty of solubilizing quercetin in water. Zyvex Hypertonic and Zyvex Advanced Oral Spray apply an Italian technology which, through the incorporation of quercetin in liposomes based on soy phospholipids (phosphatidylcholine), makes the quercetin more soluble in water until a significant dose is obtained to have an antiviral action. This technology has been studied previously by oral administration against SARS-CoV-2 in clinical trial with significative benefits.
